چکیده
We use the SPIRE Fourier-transform spectrometer (FTS) on-board the ESA Herschel Space Observatory to analyse the submillimetre spectrum of the Ultra-compact HII region G29.96-0.02. Spectral lines from species including 13CO, CO, [CI], and [NII] are detected. A sparse map of the [NII] emission shows at least one other HII region neighbouring the clump containing the UCHII. The FTS spectra are combined with ISO SWS and LWS spectra and fluxes from the literature to present a detailed spectrum of the source spanning three orders of magnitude in wavelength. The quality of the spectrum longwards of 100 μm allows us to fit a single temperature greybody with temperature 80.3 ± 0.6 K and dust emissivity index 1.73± 0.02, an accuracy rarely obtained with previous instruments. We estimate a mass of 1500 M for the clump containing the HII region. The clump’s bolometeric luminosity of 4 × 10 L is comparable to, or slightly greater than, the known O-star powering the UCHII region.

The Open University ’ s repository of research publications and other research outputs SPIRE spectroscopy of the prototypical Orion Bar pho - todissociation region
Aims. We present observations of the Orion Bar photodissociation region (PDR) obtained with the SPIRE instrument on-board Herschel. Methods. We obtained SPIRE Fourier-transform spectrometer (FTS) sparse sampled maps of the Orion bar. Results. The FTS wavelength coverage and sensitivity allow us to detect a wealth of rotational lines of CO (and its isotopologues), fine structure lines of C and N...

Context. By means of different physical mechanisms, the expansion of H ii regions can promote the formation of new stars of all masses. RCW 120 is a nearby Galactic H ii region where triggered star formation occurs. This region is well-studied – there being a wealth of existing data – and is nearby. However, it is surrounded by dense regions for which far infrared data is essential to obtain an...

New observations with Herschel allow accurate measurement of the equilibrium temperature of large dust grains heated by the interstellar radiation field (ISRF), which is critical in deriving dust column density and masses. We present temperature maps derived from the Herschel SPIRE and PACS data in two fields along the Galactic plane, obtained as part of the Hi-GAL survey during the Herschel sc...

We present the first far-IR observations of the solar-type stars δ Pav, HR 8501, 51 Peg and ζ2 Ret, taken within the context of the DUNES Herschel open time key programme (OTKP). This project uses the PACS and SPIRE instruments with the objective of studying infrared excesses due to exoKuiper belts around nearby solar-type stars. The observed 100 μm fluxes from δ Pav, HR 8501, and 51 Peg agree ...
